Is what you're doing today, getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow?
This is something I think of almost every single day....and I'm not just relating this to fitness, Im relating this to every aspect in my life.
I remember when I had a job as a Full Time Conveyancer, and I would tell myself "This isn't what I was brought on this earth to do". It's not that I hated my job, but I knew there was more for me. I knew I had more to offer.
Everyday felt like ground hog day! I would get up at 5am, go to the gym, train for 1-1.5 hours, drive to Mornington to get my coffee, and then head all the way back to Cranbourne to start work at 9am! I loved the long drive to Mornington to get my coffee. It was a time for me to reflect. A time for me to just listen to myself think. Most of the time I would just drive in silence. It's amazing how much you think about when you take the time to listen to yourself!
The day I stopped telling myself "what if" and actually started to take action, is when things really started to change for me. I thought of things that I wanted to do, and I just did them. It almost became addictive! The more I put myself out there, the more I realised that there are so many opportunities out there for me. I just had to go out and find them! If I didn't decide to quit my job over 12 months ago to pursue my career in The Fitness Industry, I wouldn't be here today writing this blog. I wouldn't be starting my own business. In fact, I would be on a completely different path!
So many people say that they either hate their job, they don't like their relationship/s, they want to travel, save money, buy a house, to be fit, to run a marathon (the list goes on), but they don't actually do anything about it. They'd almost rather live with the perception that some people are just "lucky", when in reality, you're only one decision away from a totally different life. You have the ability to do these things. You just have decide that you're going to do it. Once you make that decision, you're already half way there.
I'm all about working hard, and especially with starting my own business, I know it's not going to be a walk in the park, but I also care about the "now". I don't want to spend all my 20's and all my 30's, working Monday-Friday, 9-5pm, just so that I can pay the bills, save money, and perhaps retire early (#living)... I want to spend my time being present and enjoying my life now. Going on adventures, being near the ocean, salty hair, sun kissed skin, holding hands, kissing lips, reading a book, listening to a podcast, seeing my friends, travelling, being up high and looking out at the world, random walks, running as fast as I can in to the freezing cold ocean, riding a bike with no shoes on in summer.... These are the things that make me happy. These are the things that are going to bring me closer to where I want to be tomorrow. And that's happiness.
Tomorrow isn't just another day. It's an opportunity to make something of your day. An opportunity to be even happier than you were yesterday. Whether it's a random conversation with a stranger, or you finally quit the job that you hate. Don't waste time doing things that don't make you happy and content. Create opportunities for yourself, and do things that will help you live a happy and fulfilled life. Starting my own business allows me to express my true passion, help people, make a difference, and also give me financial freedom to really live my life to the fullest!
Yesterday, I got up early and drove to Mornington, got myself a coffee, found a random seat on the esplanade, and sat there and read my book. At that very moment, there was nowhere else I'd rather be. (Perhaps Byron Bay hehe)
Next time, instead of picking the negatives out of your day, think of all the great things! What did you do today that made you smile?
Ask yourself, is what you're doing today, getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow?
